About

Michal (“Me-how”) Witek began playing guitar over 20 years ago in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. At an early age, he was introduced to classic rock - his first love - but quickly started exploring other genres such as pop, alternative, funk, fusion, country, and jazz. It wasn’t long before he joined a variety of groups such as alternative rock bands, jazz ensembles, and pit orchestras, and found himself performing at notable venues such as House of Blues Chicago, Bottom Lounge, Bourbon on Division, Cubby Bear, Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC, and Lucas Theater of the Arts in Savannah. He currently performs solo, as a session guitarist, and with his band, Tarry and the Towns, in Austin, Texas.

His main influences are rock guitarists such as Guthrie Govan, Derek Trucks, and Eric Johnson, but also jazz musicians like Wes Montgomery, John Scofield, and George Benson. Michal has spent countless hours developing his knowledge of music theory through complex books and his aural skills through challenging transcriptions. This knowledge of music theory combined with years of experience performing in the music industry ensures that his students receive a well-rounded education. After several years of teaching, he understands that no two students have the same aspirations, influences, or learn at the same rate. Therefore, he uniquely tailors his lessons for each student to ensure they are satisfied, achieve their goals, and most importantly - have fun!

Michal holds a BS in Systems Engineering and Design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, along with a minor in Electrical Engineering. When he isn’t playing music, you can find him exploring the outdoors, riding his motorcycle, or exercising at the gym.
