About

Allison King is a flutist, teacher, artist, and photographer based out of Chicago, IL. She recently completed her Master of Music degree at DePaul University under the tutelage of Stefán Höskuldssohn and received her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, where she studied with Marianne Gedigian. She previously studied with Joanne Meyer White. Allison has been teaching for over 10 years and has worked with flutists of all ages and levels. While primarily a flutist, she also teaches beginner piano students. In 2019, Allison was awarded a fellowship with the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute and, in 2020, she was selected as a member of the Round Top Festival Orchestra. She was named an honorable mention in the 2021 DePaul Concerto Competition, the Austin Flute Society’s 2020 Collegiate Competition, and winner of the 2016 Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition. Allison has interests in many different traditional flutes including the traverso, Irish flute, Dizi, 대금 (Taegŭm), and several other world flutes. She has recently begun studying the integration of ancient instruments and musical traditions into contemporary and pop music; focusing on the music of Korea, Ireland, and Taiwan. Along with her experience in classical and traditional music, Allison advocates for new music and collaborating with living composers. In 2022, Allison commissioned and premiered Scherzo for Flute and Piano by Benjamin Siff. In addition to her activities as a teacher and performer, she enjoys using dance, photography, and the art of painting to enhance her artistic endeavors.
