Plays and Guitar

About

Eugene has been playing guitar for 16 years and has played professionally in bands of all different genres but specializes in Classical, Jazz, Rock, Blues and Metal. Eugene has a bachelor's degree in classical guitar performance that he received from Holyoke Community College and Cedarville University. He had the once in a lifetime opportunity to be taught by a pupil of Andre’ Segovia, Philip Defremery, and also by award winning guitarist John Mason, who specialized in rock-jazz fusion. Eugene currently plays in a trio called the “Viva La Strings guitar trio” consisting of violin, cello and guitar in the Dayton area. After Graduating he has taught private lessons for over three years and will teach anyone from eight years of age to adulthood. How and what he will teach will vary depending on the students goals. For young students, Eugene has a small book curriculumn he will use to get them playing. For a student who just wants to learn to play for recreational use, he will accommodate them and give them productive guidance along the way. For a student who wants to study music in college or take their playing to a higher level, he will prepare them for what is expected at a college or professional level. Overall, Eugene's philosophy for his students is that their time behind their instrument should be a comfort zone. Motivation is not always driven by tough love and high expectations. Instead, motivation is driven by encouragement and appreciation of the art form. It is a teacher's job to inspire a student to have a desire to grow and to fall in love with what he or she is learning.
