Jason started playing guitar at the age of 9 and knew very quickly that this is what he
wanted to do with his life. He was originally drawn to heavier types of music as that's where he noticed the highest level of proficiency in musicianship, particularly the guitar playing. He was quickly drawn to guitar oriented bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, then was introduced to more progressive bands like Dream Theater and Fates Warning, which quickly formed a direction for his own playing. He started studying at the Denver Guitar Institute at the age of 14 and gained an appreciation for music theory while studying scales, modes, chords, songwriting and arranging. In his early 20s he formed a band called The Quiet Room which was a progressive metal band at the cutting edge of the genre. They eventually signed to Metal Blade Records, recording two full length discs. In support of the album releases they toured the US and Canada sharing the stage with the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater, Gary Hoey, Savatage, Anvil, Iced Earth etc. Jason has also always had a love for acoustic guitar music and has spent a lot of time focusing on nylon string guitar techniques, like classical and flamenco, as well as steel string style guitar music such as singer songwriter and double handed tapping. Jason has been teaching guitar and bass for over twenty years to students of all ages and playing levels. He is able to
teach various styles and is known to be very patient and able to explain complex subjects in simple terms that are students are able to understand. Jason customizes each lesson to the student’s desires and goals and doesn’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach to teaching.
