Plays and Guitar

About

Ben Smallwood grew up in Columbus Ohio, where he started playing guitar at the age of 14. Ben is currently a senior at Wright State University, where he is pursuing a BFA in Acting. In his studies, Ben has had several opportunities to marry his passion for theatre and the guitar, such as playing Carl Perkins in “Million Dollar Quartet” at Weathervane Playhouse, as well as participating in several student-based ensembles on campus. Before coming to Wright State, Ben worked for several years at a private elementary school in Columbus, specifically with kids between Kindergarten and 2nd grade. Ben enjoys learning and playing Rock and Roll music on both electric and acoustic guitar, ranging from 1950’s blues to contemporary pop hits. As a self-taught musician, Ben strives to help his students cultivate a love of the guitar by using a “go with the flow” teaching method, encouraging them to focus on the genres and artists that they are passionate about while still promoting proper technique and practices along the way.
