About

Lucas Julián Carballeira is a performing musician that has been active in music since he was just ten years old. His curiosity and love of variety has led him to study every style of music. He performs mostly rock, classical, and some jazz, but prefers not to limit himself in this way.

Carballeira's musical journey began when his soccer coach decided to form a kids rock band with members of the team. From the moment his soccer coach taught him to play a chord through a cranked Marshall amplifier, Carballeira was hooked. He began taking lessons at his local music store and learning music on his own, being inspired first by classic rock, and then by punk rock and metal music.

Upon entering his studies at the University of Arizona, Carballeira was impressed by the performance ability of the top students in the Bolton Guitar Program. He decided to dedicate himself to the studies of classical guitar, composition, and music theory. Within just a couple years he was able to compete on the graduate level, becoming the first undergraduate student to be admitted to the final round of the David Russell Bach Prize Guitar Competition in 2017. All the while, he was performing as a rock guitarist and singer with multiple bands in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona.

Following a year of studying classical guitar in Vigo, Spain, Carballeira returned to Tucson. He moved to Austin, Texas in 2023 where he currently performs and teaches.
