About
A Texas native and established percussionist, Ms. Kara employs a wealth of academic and professional experience to deliver the most diverse education possible to her students. Throughout her career, she has studied, taught, and performed across Texas and in the greater Miami area. She received her bachelor’s degree in percussion performance from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi, where she was among the first ever recipients of the Islander Chamber Music Scholarship. During her undergraduate studies, she taught at local underprivileged schools as part of an outreach program spearheaded by the Islander Chamber Music groups, and made appearances on the KEDT radio station with both the TAMUCC Percussion Ensemble and Islander Brass Quintet +1. Additionally, Ms. Kara recently graduated from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music with her master’s degree in percussion performance. During her time there, she co-founded puZZle, one of the first ever women’s percussion group at the school, and also performed in numerous recitals, masterclasses, and professional events in the area.
As an educator, Ms. Kara got her start providing tutoring and lessons in the areas of music theory, piano, and percussion to high schoolers and early undergraduate students during her time in Corpus Christi. What originally started as favors to friends and family quickly turned into a passion, and she began to look for opportunities to expand her network wherever possible. Now, Ms. Kara enjoys a diverse career as a teacher that has seen multiple cities, touches on a greater variety of instruments and subjects, and spans genres ranging from classical to modern rock. In practice, she places great emphasis on cultivating a genuine love for music and the arts in each of her students. She states that each student has their own goals, wishes, and desires when it comes to playing an instrument, and as such carefully tailors each lesson to the individual’s needs. It is her objective that all of her pupils walk away from their lessons with not only a greater degree of artistry and creativity, but also with a general understanding of how to perform, think critically, and be confident in any path they may choose.
