About

Andrew Stehn is a native Texan who grew up in a small town just north of Corpus Christi. His study of music began with piano lessons and trumpet in 6th grade band. In high school, he fell in love with the guitar and harmonica and found a passion for performing traditional blues and country music.

Andrew attended the University of North Texas and received a Bachelor of Music Education as a brass specialist. He also had the privilege of singing and playing the vihuela (a small guitar-like instrument) in the university's new mariachi, Mariachi Aguilas. While continuing to perform solo on guitar, he also formed The Ghosts of Texas, a traditional country band. The Ghosts of Texas performed regularly around central and north Texas, opening for artists such as Pops Carter, Wayne the Train Hancock, and Dale Watson, as well as headlining their own shows.

After graduation, Andrew moved to Austin, TX where he worked as an assistant band director and gained experience teaching all beginning band instruments. He later taught high school math while recording two albums with the Ghosts of Texas and continuing to perform. He has recently moved to New Braunfels with his wife Laura, an award-winning band director, and their two dogs, Benny and Buckley.

Andrew enjoys teaching students how to read music, along with music theory that is useful for vocalists and beginners of all instruments. He specializes in fingerstyle and slide guitar, traditional mariachi guitar technique, and teaching others to sing while playing complex patterns and rhythms.
