About

Zachary Van Alst grew up in Winchester, Massachusetts where his love of music began. Beginning with the cello in elementary school, Zachary’s affinity for performance grew stronger, as he branched out to instruments like drums and guitar. He honed his skills in college, at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. During his studies, Zachary learned to play the bass and piano, and he learned how to sing. Zachary is no newcomer to performance, working semi-professionally with The Concord Players and the Arlington Philharmonic. He played in many ensembles in college, as well as participated in and produced lively shows on his own. He is well versed in many genres, such as jazz, pop, and funk. Not only will Zachary teach a student to play a song, he will also break down the components like musical techniques and theory, which are the building blocks of songwriting and performance. Zachary holds a BFA in Composition for New Media. He is currently living in Somerville, Massachusetts, working on solo musical projects with the support of his precious cat, Joni.
