About

Anthony Staten is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and music educator from the St. Paul, Minnesota area with over 20 years of experience as a performing and recording musician. Raised by a family with a long musical history in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, Anthony picked up the guitar at the age of 12 and has rarely put it down since. After moving to Minnesota in 2010, Anthony studied Guitar Performance at McNally Smith College of Music under the guidance of such varied instructors as Reverend Guitars signature artist Greg Koch, progressive metal guitarist Mike Salow, German classical guitar superstar Dr. Eva Beneke, and Fretboard Biology author Joe Elliott. Anthony began teaching private lessons in 2018, and maintains an active roster of guitar, bass, and piano students. He also has expertise as a band director, arranger, transcriptionist, and producer/audio engineer, in addition to experience in instrument repair and early childhood music enrichment programs. When he's not teaching, you can find him performing and recording as the lead guitarist in Celtic/folk punk/rock group St. George's Folly, and on the rare occasion he's not doing something music-related, he's usually spending time with his family, co-hosting history podcast The Lesser Stories, or playing videogames (badly).

Anthony generally teaches students ages 5 and up, and aims to create a laid-back environment that allows each student's personality to shine through while helping them broaden their musical palate. He specializes in getting students to play versions of their favorite songs as quickly as possible, with the belief that everyone is more likely to want to learn music if they're learning music that they enjoy.
