About

Karalina Coates is a pianist from Colorado Springs currently in her third year of her Bachelor's in Music Composition from the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music. She has been performing professionally since the age of fourteen. Notable teachers in classical piano have been Dr. Adam Haas, who plays in the Colorado Springs Philharmonic; and Dr. William Lipke, who solos internationally and currently teaches at Adams State University. She has also taken lessons with the renowned piano educator Dr. Emily Book McGree. Karalina is studying composition, electronic music, and improvisatory piano with Dr. Sean Friar at Lamont. Karalina is the Lamont Wind Ensemble’s pianist and celeste player and plays in its offshoot wind chamber ensembles. She has performed with various student ensembles in both classical and jazz genres and accompanies vocalists performing student-composed works. She is currently in two professional bands, “Above Ground” Classic Rock and “Rose Cold.” Karalina loves music theory and believes a solid theory background makes a great versatile musician. When not making music, she loves creating art, playing tabletop games, and nice weather.
