About

A jazz pianist, composer, and arranger based in Orange County and Los Angeles, Joseph was classically trained, starting the piano at the age of 5 and performing in performing in local Vietnamese churches. He has since composed many original compositions, written for a variety of ensembles, and performed regularly at Hotel Angeleno, Irvine Spectrum, and other venues.

He has since earned his Bachelors of Music, specializing in Jazz Piano Performance at University of California, Irvine. A recipient of the Harry and Marjorie Ann Slim Memorial Scholarship, Joseph has studied with local jazz mainstays in the LA scene such as Vardan Ovsepian and Kei Akagi. He has also studied composition, theory, and been involved with jazz ensembles with Darek Oles, Michael Dessen, Jerry Pinter, Sasha Berliner and Eric Revis during his time at UC Irvine.

In addition to jazz, Joseph participates in a variety of musical circumstances by playing in church, chamber ensembles, a salsa band, and dance projects/theses/masterclasses for undergraduate and graduate students. His original music takes inspiration from Choro, Milonga, bebop, swing, post-bop, avant-garde, as well as modern and contemporary jazz. As he prepares for his Masters, he is looking to soon release a debut EP featuring his original music with a jazz quintet.
