Plays Flute, Piano, and Songwriting

About

Ms. Roberta is 48 years old and lives in Minneapolis MN. She has been involved in music since she was a child. Roberta taught herself piano around 8 years old and started writing songs. Flute was introduced to her in elementary school and she was heavily involved in lessons, bands and other performances. During this time, a family friend heard Roberta play the piano and encouraged her mother to take private lessons. The teacher's roster was full when she auditioned but she made room for her after hearing Roberta play one of her original songs. She went on to become a church pianist while performing at different events.
Roberta went on to study Music Education at St Cloud State University, Sound Arts at MCTC and Music Therapy at the University of Minnesota. Throughout her college career she worked as a piano teacher at a private music school as well as teaching in students' homes. During that time, she taught flute, piano and theory lessons to children and adults. She has also served as a volunteer theory tutor, conducted ensembles and been involved in multiple music therapy practicums.
Ms. Roberta graduated with an AS in Sound Arts and a BA in Music. She continues to teach piano as well as work in educational settings. Children and music have always been her most rewarding career types. They are a source of joy and she loves to share her gifts with others.
Roberta firmly believes music can be an asset to our daily lives and wants her students to become their own asset through music. She also believes playing piano can be a stress release, a source of joy and a skill that improves self confidence. One of Roberta's top priorities is to recognize the individuality of the student and tailor the lesson to them. Free expression is highly encouraged and that's why she gives students the opportunity to pick out music they want to play along with traditional lessons. Roberta is very excited to work with you!
