About

Ethan Ostrow is a Minneapolis-based pianist, composer, and singer whose music is “dynamic, passionate, and gorgeous” (East Bay Express). Ethan has over a decade of experience teaching students ranging from 5 to 75 years old, in-person and online. He focuses on building a strong foundation of musicality for his students, making sure they understand music emotionally, theoretically, and technically. Each lesson is meant to be fun, exciting, and challenging. Ethan believes that when we practice the piano, we are practicing getting better at being ourselves, through the medium of a strange metal and wood noise-making contraption.

Ethan has performed extensively across the US; and in Havana and Tokyo. He recently moved to Minnesota from NYC, where he frequently performs at venues such as Birdland Jazz Club, Dizzy’s, Chelsea Table & Stage, Nublu, Rockwood Music Hall and more with musicians such as Dayna Stephens, Kellin Hanas, and Nick Marziani.

Ethan is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, having been mentored by jazz greats Stefon Harris, Ingrid Jensen, Jaleel Shaw, Phil Markowitz, and Jeremy Manasia. He has also studied and played with Minneapolis stalwarts Phil Hey (Dewey Redman) and Dean Sorenson (Glenn Miller Orchestra, Frank Sinatra); as well as legendary Bay Area pianist Susan Muscarella.

"Ethan is a wonderful piano instructor! He is caring and attentive, and will tailor lessons around the learning desires of his student. I enjoyed Ethan's personal approach, his genuine love of music, and the unique way that he approached every lesson - focusing on both "hearing" music and playing music. He is perfect for both beginners and advanced players. I highly recommend!" - Greg
