About
Originally from southwest Kansas, Christy grew up singing a cappella in church and learned songs by ear on piano and vocals. She then began clarinet, piano, ukulele, drums, saxophone and voice in middle and high school. Kansas State University is where she furthered her study of music education and performance while studying music theory, clarinet, sax, piano and voice, while still keeping up with ukulele and drums. She played in various ensembles such as Jazz Bands, Concert Band, Orchestra, Musical Pits, Clarinet Quartet, Woodwind Ensemble and Latin Ensemble. During this time, she taught students lessons through the university and independently. After obtaining her bachelor’s in Applied Music, Christy joined the Army Band serving as a vocalist, clarinetist and saxophonist for three years, singing and playing in many ensembles. She sang in the Army Rock Band and Jazz Combo. She also played clarinet in the clarinet quartet and saxophone in the Pop Band. When her time in the Army was up, she then taught music lessons at a studio in North Carolina for about a year before moving here to Colorado Springs where her husband is now stationed.
As a teacher, Christy loves meeting each individual where they are at musically. With her passion for music, she wants to encourage students to reach their full potential, improve their talents, and strengthen their love for music. She wants everyone she teaches to play or perform music that is fun and enjoyable for them. She also believes anyone can be a good musician and can better themselves if they set their mind to it and work at it. She wishes to inspire and help the next generation of musicians experience the joy and passion it brings her.
