Samantha Gilboy is a professional singer and vocal instructor. She is originally from Wisconsin, where she grew up singing, playing the trumpet in concert band, and self-teaching piano, but came to San Diego around 10 years ago. She started performing as a paid singer professionally when she was 15 years old, for various events such as weddings, parties, and quinceañeras. She is both self-taught and has professional schooling. She studied with John Craig Johnson (PhD holder from USC who works with Broadway singers), both in a college and private-lesson setting. Samantha currently teaches private lessons for a separate company but is branching out to also teach in-home private lessons. She has experience teaching both children (as young as 4) and adults (60s+) from beginning to advanced levels, and is well-versed in a variety of styles (classical/opera, pop, musical theatre, country, rock/pop-punk). She also has experience working with transgender singers who want to incorporate their singing voice into their transition. Her teaching philosophy is very foundational and teaches the core principles of singing which apply to every skill level. She believes that singing is as mental as it is physical, and so she incorporates overcoming fear and mental blocks in order to let each student's voice grow to its fullest potential!
