Plays Bass, and Guitar
About
Maya has been playing and performing on bass for over 18 years. As a gigging musician she has played many styles, including pop, rock, punk, disco, funk, R&B, musical theater, jazz, classical, Brazilian styles, country, folk, and more. While living in New England, Maya spent four years working as a wedding musician. For seven years she toured and recorded with Future Teens, an indie rock band from Boston, MA. The group toured all over the US, as well as multiple tours in the UK and Europe, and recorded three LPs, two EPs, and a live EP at Audiotree Live sessions. Maya attended Berklee College of Music for bass performance, where she earned the Bass Department Outstanding Performer Award and Scholarship, and had the opportunity to perform at Symphony Hall with the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra. She also holds a BA in English and French from Skidmore College.
Maya uses her background as a working and performing musician to ground lessons in real-world application, and to help students develop realistic and consistent practice routines. She teaches both guitar and bass, with experience as an instructor at Millbrook School in Millbrook, NY, and Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, CT, where she taught for three years. While in Boston, she volunteered with Girls Rock Camp Boston as a band coach and instrument instructor, and maintained a private teaching roster. Maya loves to connect with students and support their love of music. She creates a positive, open learning environment by tailoring lessons to individual student goals and learning styles.
