About

Music is a vast and deep ocean! A singer is a mere drop.

Anusha is a trained classical Indian music singer and teacher (South Indian Carnatic) who is passionate about preserving this art and sharing it with anyone from any background. Having trained with Guru Jayashree Varadarajan, founder of SRLKM School of Fine Arts, for 14 years and performed in various solo, duet and group concert settings, Anusha started teaching with Raaga School of music and taking her own private lessons for interested students. Anusha also has a decade of experience singing in school choirs and regional honor choirs. By blending traditional teaching methods appropriate to Carnatic style of methods and Western vocal exercises, Anusha makes lessons relevant and relatable.

A typical lesson with Anusha is modeled after the way her teacher taught lessons. The curriculum spans from covering music theory (Raaga theory) and history of composers and compositions. Anusha likes to fortify the foundations of Carnatic in students by covering (in three speeds and at least two different Raagas, or scales): Swaravalis (basic notes), Dheerga Swaravalis (stretched notes), Janti Varsais (double notes), Dhatu Varsais (zigzag notes), Thara Sthayi (higher octave), Mandra Sthayi (lower octave), and Alankarams (various beat patterns), and more!

Anusha believes teaching is learning and is passionate about sharing this art and discipline with students!
