Plays Bass, and Guitar

About

Chris has been playing guitar for over 30 years and for the past 25 years has been a professional musician, working in and around the Charlotte area. Chris teaches everything from guitar basics up to more advanced concepts, like improvising, music theory and more. Chris' main focus for most of his career has been on playing jazz, which he still continues to do now. For the past several years he's been working in a country band, and at the same time honing his country guitar technique. Chris teaches a high school guitar class where the focus is on first time guitar players or players who have taught themselves a few things. In the class students learn about the fundamentals of music, reading basic music notation, TAB notation, open chords, open chord strumming patterns, fingerpicking, 12 bar blues, and more. In addition to this, Chris is also the current adjunct Jazz guitar instructor at Davidson College, in Davidson, NC. Chris' goal as a guitar teacher is to help a student become their own best teacher and give them the necessary tools to figure out any sort of music problem. For younger students, he teaches them the basics of music as it relates to the guitar: reading basic notation, open chords, etc. For adolescent and adult students, the lessons are catered more or less to what the end goal is for the student; whether that is playing along with their favorite songs, learning how to play a specific style of music and more.
His emphasis is on the Three Ps of: Practice, Patience and Persistence and at same time keeping the student motivated to continue on with their guitar goals.
