Sophia Lee is a percussionist based out of San Marcos, TX. She has lived in Texas for 10 years and has become a true Texan! Sophia has always been involved in music. She began piano when she was 4 years old, but by the 5th grade was introduced to the percussion world and never looked back. Sophia was also involved in a travelling drum group called Sheltered Reality. With this group she would travel to High Schools and Middle Schools all over the country and encourage kids to express themselves through music. This group drove her to the rest of her music career. Sophia pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance in the field of Percussion and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Spring of 2020. Through her years at this university she was introduced to all variations and styles of performance. Sophia was trained in marching band, orchestra, concert band, and solo performances. While being a full time student she also found time to teach at any local school she could. She was the percussion director for a local high school and middle school where she taught the summer drumline camp, and she taught middle school master classes to help the students learn how to read music and play in a group. During the spring semesters she would teach private lessons to help the students get ready for their UIL performances. Sophia stayed with this school for 3 years until she graduated. Before this she would teach private lessons out of a studio she rented at her university giving her 5 years of private lesson teaching experience. Sophia has experience teaching ages 12-18 and has a speciality in marimba lessons. Sophia can teach any percussion instruments including: marimba, marching snare drum, concert snare drum, drumset, and all accessories of orchestral and marching band seasons. Sophia loves teaching private lessons and really catering the lessons to the style of the student. Sophia will use workbook excerpts and an adaptive weekly lesson plan system to keep lessons moving in a successful direction.
