About

PJ Winters has been teaching private music lessons since 2014. He earned a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Duquesne University, where he also worked for a nonprofit organization tutoring students in music theory and voice. Classically trained from the age of six until he graduated from college, PJ specializes in piano pedagogy. He has added the genres of gospel, jazz, and contemporary music to his arsenal of piano skills along his journey. Since the age of 14, he has also directed his church choir and led many worship team bands at several different churches. Now certified to teach Pre-K-12, he has taught elementary band and high school choir. He is thus familiar with all instrument families and all sections that sing in a choir. By keeping an open mind, listening, and consistently asking for feedback, PJ adapts his teaching style to fit his student’s current needs and activates his students’ enthusiasm to learn. He guides his students through exercises, ear training, and written music to help them to become well rounded musicians. PJ believes it’s the responsibility of those with knowledge to pass on what they’ve learned from their own instructors to their students so that they may have the opportunity to become more successful. One of his previous supervisors states that he “is passionate about learning and sharing knowledge with others. He has always excelled at teaching.” One of his past music instructors states, “His strongest character attributes as a student, are his intentionality, reliability, compassion for people, and willingness to learn. Over the years, he has used his gifts to bring positive change to his community, and school.”
