About

Yi Chan Richard You is a music educator, producer, and multi-instrumentalist with a passion for bridging music theory and creativity. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Popular Music from the University of Southern California and will complete his Master of Science in Arts Leadership at USC’s Thornton School of Music in Spring 2025. Richard currently teaches practical music theory at the collegiate level, with a focus on modern worship and popular music, helping students understand and apply theory directly to songwriting, performance, and live band settings.

He has served as an Instructor of Music Theory at Calvary Chapel Bible College and as a Teaching Assistant for a K-pop production course at Umsic Music. His approach combines classical theory foundations with real-world musical application, often integrating technology tools such as Sibelius, Logic Pro X, and Pro Tools to support student learning in both in-person and online settings. With over a decade of experience as a worship leader, live sound engineer, and music producer, Richard brings a unique and empathetic perspective to the classroom—mentoring students not only in technical knowledge but in artistic growth and confidence.
