John Van Dyke is a drummer and educator who began his musical journey surrounded by his father's big band music and his sister's piano & vocal practices. John started serious drum lessons in 7th grade and after high school, he attended Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. John was blessed to have spent a year “hanging out” with the great Freddie Gruber, which was followed by years of playing in bands of various genres in clubs and cafes. John has toured nationally with his band Arithmetic of War, playing alongside Static X, SOiL, Trust Company, Breaking Benjamin, and Flyleaf. Prior to A.O.W., John and his band CRINGE were one of the biggest Los Angeles bands at the time, with residences at The Gig and The Viper Room. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, which he combines drumming with the ergonomics of the body and how it relates to the drumset while utilizing an efficiency motion.
