About

John Tessin is a professional multi-instrumentalist and passionate music educator with over eight years of teaching experience. Born in Illinois and raised in Southern California, John has been immersed in music from an early age. Throughout middle school, high school, and college he participated in marching band, wind ensemble, drumline, and orchestra, while being an active member of the Southern California music scene, performing in many bands.

John teaches and performs on a wide range of instruments including piano, guitar, bass, and drums—with a deep-rooted love for percussion. His musical foundation is in classic rock from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, and his style spans rock, pop, jazz, funk, metal, blues, country, and more. Two of his biggest musical influences are the Grateful Dead and Van Halen, whose energy and creativity continue to inspire his playing and teaching.

In addition to teaching, John actively tours and records with multiple bands, bringing real-world experience into every lesson. From an early age John was working with A listers and his musical heroes. His energetic, adaptable approach helps students of all levels grow both technically and creatively.

When he is not gigging or playing music, John likes to enjoy the benefits of the Southern California lifestyle. He enjoys surfing and the beach, hanging with friends, playing basketball, working out, eating healthy, and living a healthy lifestyle. John loves animals and has a chocolate lab named Jessi (12) and two cats. Check out his band "Familiar Faces" online and on tour near you!
