Santiago Lopez is a guitarist born in Quito, Ecuador, who moved to Boston, Massachusetts, in 2014 after receiving a full scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music, where he earned his degree in Performance.
Santiago has built a successful career as a band leader for his alternative rock band Orchid Reed, an in-demand sideman and studio musician for other important projects and artists, and as a private guitar and music instructor. He is a versatile, expressive guitarist skilled in a range of styles including rock, jazz, blues, pop and funk.
¨Performing is an absolute passion of mine. I love sharing my love of music with an audience and evoking emotion. Important performances I`ve been a part of include opening for acclaimed trumpet player Randy Brecker at the Ecuador Jazz Festival in 2013 and headlining the national-touring Rockstar Beer Festival at Royale in Boston in Summer 2019 and Winter 2020 with my band Orchid Reed. I also frequently play at local Boston-area venues including Beat Brew Hall, Wally’s Jazz Club, The Lilypad, Theory Wine Bar and Listening Room, and Lizard Lounge.
Teaching is another way I share my passion for music with others. I have many years of experience teaching guitar and music lessons to students of all ages and all levels, from beginner to advanced. My approach focuses on making a plan catered to what the student wants to explore musically. Together we will set goals to take your guitar playing to the next level while enhancing your enjoyment of making music. Lessons cover topics such as chordal vocabulary, comping, soloing, sound, improvisation, technique and repertoire. I am available to teach in English or Spanish.¨
