Daniel Peña is a passionate and dedicated musician. He is an experienced, friendly, and enthusiastic teacher who loves the foundation of music as well as using techniques of creativity to teach music by note and by ear.
Mr. Pena began his musical training at Academia Luis A. Calvo in Bogota, Colombia under professor Gentil Montaña. He began to study Jazz music at the New School University in New York. He was the lead guitarist with Live 1 Culture Band performing at many local venues. Daniel received his Associate of Arts in Music Studies from San Diego Mesa College in 2015. He has participated in the San Diego Mesa College Jazz Band and World Music Ensemble as a guitarist and percussionist. He has performed at Cafe Sevilla, Wired Cafe, Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Dizzy's, and The Horton Grand Hotel in San Diego. Since graduation, Daniel has worked as both a freelance music teacher and for Taylor Robinson Music and Next Guru.
Daniel loves Latin, jazz, blues, country, and pop music. He teaches both children and adults, beginners and intermediate levels, and is bilingual in English/Spanish as well. He understands music concepts and effectively communicates them to his students. He has an advanced understanding of music theory, techniques, and understanding of keys. He works on music basics, such as correct posture, hand placement, fretting, tuning, and reading music notation and tablature. The knowledge they will learn will allow them to play any music they love and prefer from hip-hop, blues, rock, etc. His years of experience working with youth and adults and his easy-going nature produces his ability to interact effectively with any student.
