About

Kalli Sobania grew up making music with her six brothers and sisters in the rural community of Little Falls, Minnesota. From there, her music-making has taken her to far-reaching places domestically and internationally to connect with a variety of audiences. She graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy and holds a BM in violin performance from St. Olaf College, graduating summa cum laude. As a member of the St. Olaf Orchestra, she has toured across the Midwest, East Coast, and Norway, playing in venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Oslo Opera House. She held the position of concertmaster during her senior year at St. Olaf. Kalli attended the National Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute in Washington, D.C., where she was accepted on a full-tuition scholarship. There, she studied with members of the NSO, performed at the Kennedy Center, on Millenium Stage, and at a Smithsonian art museum, the Freer Gallery of Art. On a generous scholarship, Kalli also attended Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, Vermont, where she studied with Elizabeth Chang. This past summer, she also attended the National Music Festival in Chestertown, Maryland on a full-tuition scholarship, immersing herself in orchestral performance practice and playing alongside mentors. She has participated in masterclasses with Sally O’Reilly, John Sharp, Lawrence Dutton, Wayne Lee, and members of the Brentano and St. Lawrence String Quartets. Kalli is grateful for her teachers and mentors, which include Francesca Anderegg, Natsuki Kumagai, and Paul Sonner.
