Originally from Southern California, Preston is a recent graduate from the University of Colorado Boulder where he received his master's degree in viola performance. He started on the violin at the age of 10 and made the transition to viola a few years later. He attended high school at the Orange County School of the Arts in Santa Ana, CA where he was able to gain valuable orchestral and chamber music experience. After high school, Preston attended Chapman University to study viola performance with Robert Becker and has performed in masterclasses with Richard O’Neill, the Juilliard String Quartet, the Kronos Quartet, and the Emerson String Quartet. Since graduating, Preston has moved back to Orange County and has performed professionally as a section violist with the South Coast Symphony and the Lyric Opera of Orange County. In his free time, Preston likes to go on hikes, cook new recipes, and practice nature and portrait photography.
