About

Yuchen Luo, lyric-spinto soprano, is a DMA candidate in voice with a full scholarship at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she served as a Teaching Assistant in the voice department. In 2021, She played Lucia in Lammermoor Lucia with CCM orchestral. Beyond her teaching duties at CCM, she served as a Teaching Assistant with a full scholarship at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music in 2019. She made her French opera debut in Arizona, playing the role of Cinderella in Massenet’s Cendrillon.

Yuchen did her master degree in voice with Professor Catherine Cook at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and was honored to participate in a master class with Ms. Marilyn Horne. Marilyn Horne has described her as a young soprano with "a beautiful, natural, infectious voice". In 2018, she gave a successful solo recital at Joseph Hall in San Francisco. During her studies at the SFCM, Yuchen was cast as Annchen in Die Freischütz, Mimì in La bohème.

Yuchen did her undergraduate at the China Conservatory of Music and went to Michigan State University as a student representative for academic exchange in 2010. From 2009 to 2010, She attended a succession of master classes with Prof. Haijing Fu. She played the role of Musetta in La bohème, Leonora in Il trovatore and Violetta in La Traviata. She was selected to study at the voice department of the Austrian Chinese Music University attending preparatory courses with Prof. Cordula Stepp, and six master classes with Prof. Claudia Rüggeberg. Yuchen has performed as a soloist at the Austrian embassy and in concerts of European classical vocal works at the Chinese National Grand Theater.

She has participated in a series of masterclasses by influential opera singers including Stuart Skelton, Soprano Ana María Martínez, Marilyn Horne, Barbara Reed-Honn, and Warren Jones. As an opera singer, she has received many awards such as first place in the 3rd National Higher Art Opera Vocal Competition, 31st Annual Amelia T. Riemann Opera Competition, Marguerite Ough Voice Competition, and second place in Quest of the Best Aria Competition.
