About

CJ Heck is a pianist with over 15 years experience. She grew up in Minnesota, and recently received her Bachelor's Degree in Music from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. During her time in Decorah, CJ enjoyed teaching a full piano studio of all ages and skill levels. As a young piano student, CJ broke out of the constraints of rigid and technical music instruction, and started to write her own music and play contemporary music in addition to studying classical piano rigorously. CJ knows the importance of a well-rounded music education, supported by strong music theory knowledge and technical application. Her teaching philosophy reflects a healthy balance of necessary music theory and technical instruction, while also listening to her students' wishes for the music they want to learn, in order to ignite or kindle the fiery passion for music that she believes is so important. CJ is an accomplished performer, both for solo and collaborative piano. She has performed with noteworthy adult choirs in the Midwest, including the Luren Singing Society, Collegiate Chorale of Luther College, Cathedral and Aurora choirs of Luther College, Decorah UCC church choir, First United Methodist Church of Decorah, and she has led services as the accompanist for the above churches as well as St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church of Maple Grove, Minnesota. She has performed solo recitals throughout Minnesota and Iowa, and she has accompanied countless student vocal and instrumental recitals. In high school, CJ was a finalist in the Minnesota Public Radio MN Varsity Classical Composition Showcase, as well as a finalist in the Minnesota Music Teachers' Association Composition Contest. In 2017, CJ was the recipient of the Lucille Stansberry Rosholt Distinction in Accompanying and Collaborative Keyboard Performance Award. CJ brings a well-rounded education, extensive performance background, music theory knowledge, and love for classical music into her teaching. She is always looking forward to helping others find the same love for music that she has.
