About

Going on her 11th year of teaching, Melanie draws from a lifetime of musical experience in a variety of settings.
Showing an innate musical ability at a young age, she began piano at the age of four, musical theater at 12, played French horn, was drum major in high school, and received an array of awards and scholarships in piano, voice and theater at the local, state and regional levels.
Melanie also worked in broadcasting and as a dj in radio, private gigs and clubs. She can teach you electronic music production in Ableton, Garage Band and Soundtrap. She also uses Piano Maestro, a fantastic piano app, with her beginning students. She also uses iRealPro for teaching contemporary and jazz lead sheets.
Melanie holds a MFA in Music Education from Boston University. Her wide array of skills and knowledge of music means that she has a keen ability to tap into students' needs and abilities from the first lesson. Melanie, who students simply call her Mel, offers a balanced methodology including theory, composition, technique and reading lead sheets. She uses a mix of Bastien and Suzuki methods for beginners.
Melanie uses a "student-centered" approach, meaning that students learn the songs they want to play in addition to traditional lessons. She makes learning music fun and her returning students show it.
