About

Francis Emil Johnson is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from New Ulm, Minnesota, where he began playing piano and alto saxophone as a child. Currently, he is based out of the Twin Cities and performs in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Most recently, he has held a residency at the 331 Club in Northeast Minneapolis as a soloist and bandleader. Johnson is a former member of the New Ulm Municipal orchestra, as well as the Cathedral High School concert, jazz, pep and marching bands as an alto and Bari saxophonist under the direction of Don Jirak. He has studied voice under Shannon Stuckey and John Grau, and guitar under Maja Radovanlija and Bruno Marcondes. Francis teaches guitar and piano, and holds a BA in Spanish and Portuguese Studies from the University of Minnesota. When he is not doing music, you can find him in a basketball gym.
